How sad, there’s appears to be no information. I looked up Richmond online, and it’s a decently packed city even in the 70s when the population was almost 80,000. I’m surprise no one heard or saw anything (at least according to information we have available.) It’s not very rural, so I can’t imagine him getting lost in the woods unless he drove there. Could he been a victim of a homicide or perhaps he took his own life in the San Francisco Bay nearby.

Robert E. McClure, last seen alive in Richmond, California, on June 7, 1977. White male, red-haired, with hazel eyes, 49 years old, 6 feet tall, and weighing 200 pounds. No further information is available... Richmond had a population of nearly 80,000 in the 1970s and is not a rural area. I'm surprised no one heard or saw anything! I hate it when there are no details... Depending on the area of Richmond he was in, there were definitely still sparsely populated rural areas. Richmond is quite large and extends into the San Pablo Mountains...
Anyway, rest in peace
