Interesting to me that people think she was crossing the border -- San Clemente is in Orange County, which is not near the border at all. This would make more sense to me if it was in San Diego or Riverside County, but San Clemente is fairly far from the Mexican border.
RSBM

It is, but a major border checkpoint is right there checking traffic on I-5, the highway coming up from the border. It's not in the city part of San Clemente, but in a more remote area to the south between San Clemente and Camp Pendleton, near San Onofre (GPS coordinates 33.353837, -117.526395). As a result, there's no residences, shops, or pedestrian traffic to speak of in that area. I don't think the GPS coordinates listed on Namus are quite right, because it shows a point on the freeway north of the checkpoint, while all of the articles and releases say that the incident occurred south of the checkpoint. The checkpoint only checks northbound traffic, and Border Patrol officers can pull cars aside for secondary screening.

It sounds like she was trying to run across traffic on the northbound side of the freeway, south of the checkpoint - why else would one do that in that area, unless one were trying to avoid the checkpoint? As other posters have mentioned, there are signs along the freeway in that area warning drivers to watch for people crossing the road. I haven't seen any articles that said whether the checkpoint was open at the time, but it may not matter if she was scared enough. Poor young woman. :(

MOO

Still 0 exclusions on NAMUS.

Some possibilities:
Luz Velazquez
Joanna Hernandez-Pacheco
Olga Morales Gomez
Treacy Karina Cardona Vasquez de Vasquez

What do y'all think?
IMO JMOO Joanna bears the most resemblance to the reconstruction + circumstances match up with her possibly leaving to California or Mexico.
there are many crossers near san clemente. the checkpoint is near there and theres even signs warning of ppl crossing the road.

i looked on san clemente on a map. it seems like it isn't very far off from the californian-mexican border. Maybe she came in through arizona and ended up in Cali?
