Unsolved cold case: Esther Patton called her daughter, Sandra Jean Patton, for her birthday when she heard two screams and the phone line went dead on June 5, 1987. When police arrived at Sandra Jean’s Sebastopol apartment, they discovered that the 26-year-old had been sexually assaulted and murdered. The case remains unsolved. (Press Democrat file, 1989)
