YESENIA NAVARRO GARCIA is the director of the Vocal Music Program at Santa Ana High School. This is Ms. Navarro Garcia's 4th year with Santa Ana High School. She's directed the SAHS Alumni Choir since 2017. Ms. Navarro Garcia has led music programs all over Southern California for the past 12 years, including Raymond Cree Middle School, Garden Grove Elementary Schools, and El Sol Science & Arts Academy. Ms. Navarro Garcia received her teaching credential from California State University, Fullerton under the direction of Christopher Peterson. She graduated with a bachelor of music in music education from Chapman University under Dr. William Hall, Joseph Modica, Desiree LaVertu, and Patricia Gee.

Is it just me or are we seeing an uptick of these type of cases recently? Why?

I still advocate for an anonymous help line for teachers who have inappropriate thoughts about starting a relationship with students. Prevention and intervention work.

There is no where for adults to turn when they feel close to a student or young person. This is really an issue of inappropriate boundaries in many cases. These people need help and treatment, to understand why they feel close to someone, when the relationship would be clearly a legal issue, and career, family problems. It isn't worth it.

They need to be able to have cognitive behavioral therapy to clearly define what is happening and how to stop it. Before it goes too far.

I have noticed most of the recent cases are women teachers. I think this is a recent phenomenon where the adult perpetrator is female because of more liberal perceptions of women’s sexuality. I also believe the women perpetrators feel they will not be turned by the student or caught on other ways so they are more bold than men in recent times.
