''In February 1998, human skeletal remains were found near at the northeast quadrant of the intersection of Hearn Avenue and US 101 in Santa Rosa, California. Forensic examination determined that the remains belonged to an adult white male, estimated to be about 50 years old who was likely transient or homeless. Despite extensive investigative efforts, the man's identity was unknown for more than two decades.''

''In 2022, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and California Department of Justice partnered with Othram to employ advanced forensic DNA analysis.Forensic evidence was sent to Othram and Forensic-Grade Genome Sequencing® was used to build a comprehensive DNA profile suitable for forensic genetic genealogy. Othram’s in-house forensic genetic genealogy team then used the profile in a genetic genealogy investigation to develop new leads in the case.''

''A follow up investigation and a comparison of the unidentified individual’s DNA profile to a potential relative’s DNA profile helped confirm the identity of the unknown person as Robert Michael Ream, born on February 20, 1954. He would have been 44 years old at the time his body was found, three days after his birthday.''

''This work was funded as part of the Roads to Justice (RTJ) funding program, which supports forensic genetic genealogy investigations for unidentified persons and crime victims. However, many cases remain unresolved due to a lack of available funding. Those interested in supporting the application of forensic genetic genealogy in unidentified person cases can contribute directly to DNASolves, where contributions enable critical testing that can help bring long-awaited answers to families.''

View attachment 568467Looks like he was from Wisconsin. Wonder what brought him to CA.
On 5/8/1972, he is in the Waukesha County Freeman newspaper as Pvt. Robert Ream (paraphrasing that his parents lived in New Berlin, WI) completed basic training at Fort Knox, KY.
On 9/18/1972, Waukesha County Freeman newspaper, license to wed someone with initial T.C.
Between 1972 and 1985 he is still in the Waukesha County area; not listing all the newspaper mentions.
11/6/1985 Waukesha County Freeman newspaper, divorce notice.
From 11/7/1985 - 8/24/1997 I cannot find any mention of him in Wisconsin or California newspapers. There is a different aged Robert Ream mentioned often in Paradise, CA, and one in Barstow, CA; not to be confused with the one from WI.
On 8/25/1997, he is listed on his brother's obituary as "Robert Ream of San Franciso, Calif."
