A California tech executive died Sunday after he jumped into a swimming pool to save his daughter, who was being electrocuted and turning blue in the water, PEOPLE confirms.

When paramedics arrived, father and daughter were receiving CPR, police said. Tramel was pronounced dead at Desert Regional Medical Center a short time later. His daughter was said to be in critical condition at Loma Linda Medical University.

Jim Tramel, 43, was one of seven people shocked at a Palm Springs party by what police said was faulty wiring in the pool, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. His 9-year-old daughter remains in critical condition.

Police and party goers said Tramel, who was vice president of sales at the digital marketing company RevJet, saw his daughter in distress in the pool around 4 p.m. He leaped in to pull her out — and suffered a fatal shock.

One other victim, a 10-year-old girl, is in stable condition, cops said. The other victims — three children and a 45-year-old woman — were treated and released.
