Margarita Jimenez, 34, and Jorge Garfias, 38, were convicted of murdering 35-year-old Yanelly Vargas in Oxnard, California. On March 17, 2024, Vargas was lured outside a bar by Garfias and confronted by the couple in a nearby parking lot. Surveillance footage showed Jimenez chasing Vargas with a handgun and shooting her once in the chest; Vargas also suffered blunt force injuries and signs of strangulation. The couple fled but was arrested on April 3, 2024. On September 5, 2025, both were convicted of first-degree murder, with Jimenez additionally found to have personally and intentionally discharged a firearm. Evidence recovered at the scene, including a spent shell casing, blood, and personal items, linked the couple to the crime, providing closure for Vargas’s family.
