Stanislaus County dad arrested for shooting at driver who struck, killed 2-year-old son, CHP says

A Newman man was arrested on Thursday after he fired shots at a driver who hit his son with a vehicle along Highway 33 this week, the California Highway Patrol said.

Toddler Benjamin Zepeda of Newman and his father, Elvis Zepeda, were standing on the west shoulder of Highway 33 near a food truck at about 8:25 p.m. when the child ran into the roadway. As his father chased after him, Benjamin was struck by a northbound BMW sedan, whose driver immediately pulled over, according to the CHP.

How tragic for everyone involved, including the driver who accidentally hit the child. I hope he will never blame himself and glad he's okay.

The father, EZ, should face charges, but I have empathy for his pain and trauma seeing that happen to his son. Hopefully he will fully accept that this was an accident.
