I would respectfully disagree with this comment. First, "bipolar" is a broad spectrum and in general, does not equal bizarre behavior. We have about 8 percent of the population with this or that form of this disorder, and are working hard to dispel the stigma around mental illnesses. How can we even support people fighting their depression, their suicidal thoughts, how can we persuade them to ask for help, if any weirdness on the video gets comments like "bipolar or something"?

What about Churchill during WWII,
"We shall fight them on the beaches". Churchill was very bipolar, and the finest mind of the 20th century. His bipolarity might have helped the Brits fight and win WWII.

How do we know if Margaret Geiszinger was not high on drugs, for example? Or drunk? Let us wait for official explanations.

It could even be a bad reaction to a prescribed medication.

Husband of teacher who cut student's hair says he's shocked, confused

Gieszinger's husband said he is still trying to deal with what's going on.

"It's a shock to me, that's out of her character. She doesn't do stuff like that," he told Action News. "It's not her. It's not who she is. So I don't know what was going on with her. I don't have any clue as to why she did that."

Wow. I'm hoping she was taken to a hospital to be evaluated including a mental health evaluation, alcohol and tox screens.

A California teacher forcibly cut a boy's hair while singing, officials say | Boston.com

She has had some previous problems in her career:

Gieszinger’s teaching credential was suspended for 14 days in 2016 “for immoral or unprofessional conduct,” according to the state’s Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Her teaching credential was also suspended for two weeks in 2017 but the commission does not list a reason.

One of her students also says incident was out of character for her.

Lilli Gates, one of Gieszinger’s students, told the newspaper the incident was out of character for the teacher.

“When everything was going on I was terrified, and I so badly wanted to blame her,” Gates said. “She is a loving and kind lady. She is usually all smiles and laughs. This is not the Miss G. we know and love.”

Yes, it's also possible it was drugs or alcohol. Clearly something was wrong with her in that moment. I meant no disrespect by mentioning bipolar disorder.

I would think her license suspension would end her teaching career. It certainly should have.

Visalia teacher had meltdown in class days before scissors incident, say students

Days before the strange episode in the classroom of Margaret Gieszinger, the teacher who forcibly cut a student's hair, students say the science teacher was already showing signs of odd behavior.

Students say the school should have acted sooner:

Students told Action news on Thursday that Gieszinger once had a meltdown in her chemistry class because an exam went missing.

"There were a lot of people mad at the principal for not taking action beforehand and not stopping her before she threw a tantrum," said a student.

Thanks for this thread. I just saw a feature about the hair-cutting teacher on Inside Edition. This definitely qualifies as "Bizarre News". Gieszinger's teaching credentials have reportedly been suspended previously. I'm curious about what caused her erratic behavior.

Husband of Teacher Arrested Blames Stress for Bizarre Hair-Cutting Incident

...Students at the high school outside Fresno, California, say the teacher had been acting odd for several days before the incident. Her credentials have reportedly been suspended twice before...

^^^This is Teacher Union Gone Crazy. When I taught school, I belonged to the union. There was a teacher who was really OUT TO LUNCH, the supervisor gave her a bad evaluation, and the Union fought it for her.

Seriously, it was a teacher who shouldn't have been teaching, I am not even sure I would have hired her to be a Walmart greeter. Nothing could be done about it. It was annoying, because they gave her less to do, so everyone else had to pick up the slack.

This was a charter school, so likely no union. Though the average charter school doesn't always get top of the barrel candidates. There are some amazing ones that do, however.

I have worked at union schools and charter (non-union) schools. Both have upsides and downsides. All that said, in the charters I have seen lots, lots, lots of teachers with bad boundaries, off-kilter behavior, and questionable activities....JMO.

Police report reveals new information about teacher who cut student's hair

Gieszinger told police she had intended to give a haircut to a foreign exchange student in the class, who was also living at her home.

"She said that she had to do it for (the foreign exchange student) who had been acting like 'a ding dong,'" the report says. "She said that she was sorry that (the other student's) hair got cut, but that it was already done."

This story was just on GMA. Her sister was on and said she has checked herself into the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. She also said she has had strange outbursts since she was a little girl, but she never received any mental health help until now.
