Aileen Carillo's younger brother was a former student of Ma's, and she was a little more skeptical.

"She went over the top. She would go to my brother's games in Tijuana every weekend. She went to one of his birthday parties, everything," Carillo said. "Honestly, I used to tell my mom, 'Why is she always texting my brother?' And she had contact, too, but the way she was always checking in with my brother, I thought it was nice at first like she really cares, but I've had a lot of impactful teachers that didn't have
to be that close."

I would be creeped out if any of my kid's teachers, male or female, were texting them. ugh....that is invasive.

If you feel the need to communicate with my child, out of the classroom, contact me and I will give them a message.

I am not allowed to walk into a teacher's classroom and talk to my kid without asking the teacher. Same rules should apply. JMO

I agree! My children are grown but if that would have happened, I would be visiting the principal immediately. IMO There's no reason for a teacher to be in outside communication with a child. (no GOOD reason anyway)

The San Diego Sherriff's Department said Ma was arrested at 8am Tuesday, out of view of students.

'Both law enforcement and our site staff collaborated to ensure that student learning and the campus climate were not interrupted,' the department said in statement.

'We can confirm that the student no longer attends our school, and we assure you that we will do everything we can to support the investigation.'

Police said Ma was arrested 'on the allegation of having a physically inappropriate relationship with a former student.'

Ma was sent to the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility after her arrest, where she was booked on $100,000 bond.

She is due in court on March 9.

This 34 year old 6th grade teacher suspect was first arrested Tuesday 3/7/23. She was released after posting for $100,000 bail. She was then REARRESTED on Thursday 3/9/23 with 14 new counts for going to the now 13 year old child's home to engage in more felony sexual contact.

You can't make this up.

I have often felt that there should be a 1-800 phone number that offers counseling to teachers who feel close to students. It is not a topic that is ever addressed during training in college. Not one time when I was doing my undergrad or graduate classes in education.

Yet, the topic of "counter transference" is brought up often in graduate counseling classes and supervision.

Not supporting this teacher, but I think that this type of abuse is prevalent enough that addressing prevention should be discussed.

Jacqueline Ma, 34, was a teacher at Lincoln Acres Elementary in National City — just south of San Diego — where she taught fifth and sixth grades.

But on Monday, a “concerned parent” reached out to the National City Police Department saying she was afraid her 13-year-old was being treated inappropriately by Ma, according to a news release.

It took just a day for detectives to develop probable cause to arrest the teacher.

She was booked into jail on “numerous felony charges” but was released after she was bailed out, according to police.

Detectives continued to investigate and re-arrested Ma on Thursday, charging her with additional felonies in the case.

She is now being held without bail at Las Colinas Women’s Detention Facility.

Police did not release details of the alleged crimes committed by Ma, noting that the victim in the case is still a minor.

The teacher is charged with seven counts of possession of child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 as well as with four counts of sexual exploitation of a child.

She is also charged with two counts of committing lewd or lascivious acts with a child.

Finally, Ma is charged with attempting to dissuade a witness from testifying.

Maybe that^^^ is why she was arrested again and charged 2 days after she was released? Did she go to the student's home to try to convince them not to testify?

I'm guessing she was again texting the child. For being a "Teacher of the year" she certainly isn't very bright.

I don't know how good Ma was as an educator, but she probably wasn't very smart if she caught this violation. But this is for the best because such behavior between teachers and students is unacceptable. I am glad that the trial of the teacher will now take place. When I edited the essay on cause and effect for https://graduateway.com/essay-type/cause-and-effect/ I took information about this consequence to illustrate that any violation of the law will be punished. Many teachers would like to defend Ma, although the reason for which she will be judged is understandable and it surprises me.
She is due in court on March 9.
The news is, of course, shocking. Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I've begun to see similar news about teachers and students more often. Maybe it seemed to me, or indeed the information became more freely distributed. I hope that such stories will warn teachers not to repeat such cases, if possible.

A. There must have been text exchanges between her & the student
B. She had the material (photos or videos) on her phone
C. She must have contacted the student again AFTER this to dissuade them from testifying

1. Gets arrested.
2. Manages to make bail.
3. Gets re-arrested 2 days later.

The ABCs and 123s of this teacher of the year being not being an incredibly bright Child molester.
