Santa Rosa Police are asking for the public's help, locating a woman who has been missing for a month.
  1. Terra Lynn Trunick, 28, is considered at-risk due to her history of mental illness and drug addiction.
  2. Friday evening, KM [foster mother] and about a dozen other people handed out flyers.
  3. "It's a missing person, it's my kid's mom, she's been missing 30 days," said CP, who was previously engaged to Trunick and has remained a close friend.
  4. The searchers were canvassing the parking lot of a shopping center on Santa Rosa Ave where Trunick was last seen the afternoon of January 11.
  5. KM fears Trunick has relapsed, after almost two years in drug recovery.
  6. She also says Trunick is not taking her RX for bi-polar disease, which can make her paranoid and delusional.
  7. Most alarming to those who know her is that she always stays in touch.
  8. "She stays pretty close to her people," agreed CP, "so we hear from her a minimum of twice a week and we've never actually gone this long without hearing from her."
  9. CP says that Trunick has turned to self-destructive behaviors to cope with the loss of their toddler son, who she adored.
  10. He was taken from the couple because of their drug addiction, and then adopted.
  11. CP remains clean in a recovery program.
  12. Their child is now 4, and Trunick is able to see him, when she is off drugs.
  13. The search has turned to homeless shelters and encampments, since she has no car and no money.
  14. Her last contact with CP was a flurry of FB messenger calls from an unfamiliar number.
  15. Later, the owner of the cell phone told CP that Trunick had borrowed it outside a store, used it, then went on her way.
  16. But searching his name on the internet turned up disturbing info: a criminal record.
  17. "It leads back to 2010 and a 6 year prison sentence for raping and almost killing a young lady" said KM.
  18. Police have questioned that individual.
  19. Trunick still has friends and relatives in the North Bay.
  20. A dedicated search page has been set up on Facebook, called Missing: Terra Trunick.
  21. Saturday, dozens of volunteers planned to gather at noon in downtown Santa Rosa for their biggest search effort yet.

Police seek public’s help locating Santa Rosa woman who went missing in January

Trunick, 28, of Santa Rosa, who is 5-foot-1, around 110 pounds, and suffers from addiction and mental health issues. She was last seen on the 2700 block of Santa Rosa Avenue, near Yolanda Avenue, on Jan. 11, according to the Santa Rosa police, who have asked for the public’s help finding her.

She made a series of calls to Prior from a cellphone that police determined belonged to a convicted rapist.

That man was located and interviewed by Santa Rosa police, Sgt. Chris Mahurin said. The man told police he’d seen Trunick sitting on a curb outside a liquor store, and loaned her his phone.

“He was in custody from the beginning of February to less than a week ago, said Mahurin, meaning the man would not have been in contact with Trunick “for most of February.”

Based on the information they have, police consider Trunick “voluntary missing,”

A $500 reward for information is being offered that could lead to finding Trunick.

This is such a sad story. Her addiction may have finally won. :( MOO
  1. One of 9 children, Terra went into foster care at the age of 4.
  2. She lived with two different families before moving in with KM and JM, of Oakdale, when she was 15.
  3. After initially taking her in on an emergency basis, they became licensed foster parents “specifically to take custody of Terra,” KM said.
  4. After graduating from Oakdale High School in 2011, Terra began a relationship with CP and soon moved back to Santa Rosa.
  5. They got engaged and had a baby boy. But CP was using drugs.
  6. The baby was taken by Sonoma County CPS in 2017, and last summer the 4-year-old boy was adopted by another family.
  7. Even as her life spiraled downward, Terra always found a way to stay in touch with family. That ended on Jan. 11.
  8. CP is clean now, and was clean when Terra met him. Then he relapsed, “and she could not give up the fairy tale of a white picket fence happy ending. She lost her son as a result of her failure to leave him,” KM said.
  9. After having her child taken from her, Terra descended into addiction.
  10. She returned to the Central Valley and completed a drug rehabilitation program. She’d been clean 20 months when her son’s adoption was finalized, which hit her hard. She relapsed in August 2020.
  11. After entering another rehab program, she left after a week.
  12. Terra hitchhiked back to Sonoma Co., where she’d been surfing couches and staying with friends until October. Then she started living on the streets.
  13. “Terra has never lived on the streets before, and she’s never used in this fashion,” KM said.
  14. On at least two occasions in Oct and Nov, Terra overdosed and was hospitalized.
  15. “Terra is the most compassionate mother,” RB [who met Trunick in a treatment center in 2017] said. “When we got sober, Terra really tried to get herself together, to get her son back. When he got adopted, that really took a toll on her.”
  16. RB has talked to people at motels and homeless encampments, handing out flyers, seeking information on Terra’s whereabouts. “Because of my history, I know where to look,” she said.
  17. Terra’s addiction and mental health challenges make her especially vulnerable. Those close to her think there’s a chance she could be caught up in sex trafficking.

That, or perhaps she owed someone money for drugs. Sadly, that's all it takes sometimes for someone to get angry and hurt a person.

Sonoma County missing person cases

“The biggest issue for me personally, is the unknown. Like what’s going on, where is she?” asked Chris Prior, her former fiancée.

Prior has spent a year desperately searching for Trunick. The 28-year-old shared a son with Prior and he says there’s no way she would’ve missed some of the most important moments of their boy’s life.

“I knew after Brayden’s birthday in October and Thanksgiving and especially with Christmas time, it kind of sealed the deal for me, unfortunately. It’s a pit in my stomach that I can’t really describe,” Prior said.

Prior says the couple lost their son to child protective services because they couldn’t stay clean. They had limited visiting rights but, after the boy was officially adopted, Trunick’s life spiraled out of control.

“We just want to keep her name alive and we don’t want people to forget how serious this is and how much her loved ones miss her and want to bring her home, whether it’s alive or a way we can just have closure,” Prior said.

The family has hired a private investigator to help the Santa Rosa police department search for Terra, in hopes of finding that closure.

“Everybody is here to accomplish the same goal — that’s either to find Terra or bring Terra home,” said Craig with Armorous Private Security in Santa Rosa.

Family and friends will hold a vigil for Terra Saturday night at Finley Park. They are asking for anyone with information to come forward. You can call (855) 411-TIPS and remain anonymous. There is a cash reward offered in this case.

‘Bring Terra Home’: Vigil on Saturday will spotlight missing Santa Rosa woman (pressdemocrat.com)
The foster mother of a Santa Rosa woman who disappeared a little over a year ago has organized a candlelight vigil Saturday to keep Terra Trunick’s name in the public eye.

The vigil, to be held at Finley Park, 2060 W College Ave. in Santa Rosa, was originally set for earlier this month, one year since Trunick went missing, but a death in Trunick’s biological family led to a postponement, according to vigil planner KM, 58, of Oakdale.

[...]

In September 2021, the Mapes family hired Armorous, a private investigative firm based in Windsor. The firm, staffed mostly by retired Sonoma County law enforcement officers, is working on several leads and is trying to raise public awareness.

“With this vigil, we’re hoping to connect with a broader audience,” said Craig Guydan, director of investigations for Armorous. “We’d like to speak to anyone who has information.”

“She was my little sister at Athena House,” said Rebecca, Trunick’s friend from a Santa Rosa drug rehabilitation program. “And she gave me a run for my money.”

“She was a fighter and funky and a hell-raiser. ... I’m shocked that my friend has not popped back up. I’ve looked everywhere for her and I can’t seem to find her,” she said through tears. “I miss my friend.”

  • Medical Conditions: has a history of drug abuse and also suffers from bipolar disorder. She had been clean and sober in a recovery program for about two years prior to her disappearance, but relapsed in August 2020 and was hospitalized twice for overdoses in the ensuing months. She was also off her psychiatric medication, and may have been paranoid and delusional as a result.
  • Distinguishing Characteristics: White female. Brown hair, brown eyes. Trunick has a tattoo of a butterfly on her left shoulder. She has multiple linear scars on the isnide of her wrist. Photos of the tattoo and scars are posted with this case summary. Trunick's nickname is T-Boo. Her ears are pierced.
Details of Disappearance
Trunick was last seen in the 2700 block of Santa Rosa Avenue near Yolanda Avenue in Santa Rosa, California on January 11, 2021. A man stated he saw her sitting on the curb outside a liquor store and she borrowed his cellular phone to make a series of calls. This man is the last person to see her; she has never been heard from again.

Due to Trunick's medical history, she's considered to be at risk. She had no car or money at the time of her disappearance, and it's uncharacteristic of her to leave without warning. The man whose phone she borrowed is a convicted rapist and was investigated as a possible suspect, but he hasn't been designated a suspect or publicly named. Trunick's case remains unsolved.
