Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department Indio station were called about 10 a.m. when a truck driver found the bodies on an agricultural access road just north of Avenue 60, near its intersection with Buchanan Street.

Mark Wasserman, a Riverside County Sheriff's Department spokesman, said the practice of dumping bodies in the desert is "all too frequent."

"There are a lot of areas that are not heavily populated with easy access," Wasserman said.

Investigators said it is unknown who owned the field where the bodies were found.

It was also unknown how long the bodies had been there, but they had probably been left overnight, Wasserman said.
