The location where that body was found is on the most direct route from San Diego to Vernal UT where his car was seen on camera. But he would have gone to Vernal and doubled back:

It's not clear to me whether he was seen with the car, or just the car was seen. If it's just the car, somebody could have left his body where the remains were found and then driven on through Vernal to wherever.

So he could have sold the vehicle he just bought, and that's why he had $3K in cash. Seems that he's done it before or at least planned to do it.

I caught that too and had the same thought about it.
