Vladimir Gayduchik, a 15-year-old Ukrainian refugee, was found bludgeoned to death inside a wooden shed at San Juan High School in Citrus Heights on Oct. 5, 1998...

Gayduchik was last seen by his family the day before his body was found. He had prepared a tackle box for an after-school fishing trip before running off to catch the bus, but authorities said he never showed up at school that day and he failed to return home that night...

Investigators said at the time that the scene of the killing looked like an ambush. Gayduchik was still wearing his backpack. They said it appeared that he was caught unaware and, without a struggle, was struck on the head with a pipe. Sheriff’s officials said robbery was suspected as the motive for the attack.

I wonder what he had of value that someone knew about?

Who else was going on the fishing trip?
