Volker Puschkeit was traveling with Herbert Frank (NamUs MP #92222) from Cologne, Germany to the United States on vacation in October of 1994. According to police, the rental vehicle was discovered abandoned in a remote area of Mineral County, Nevada near Lucky Boy Pass in November of 1994. Both passports were discovered inside the vehicle with neither party being located. Volkner and Herbert were last seen at a hotel in Lee Vining, California on 10/30/1994 where witnesses indicated they had been openly discussing winning $13,000 at a casino in Reno, Nevada during their trip.

HAWTHORNE, Nev., Nov. 22 -- Nevada officials asked for the public's help Tuesday in locating a pair of German tourists who disappeared shortly after winning $10,000 at a Reno casino last month. Volker Puschkeit, 26, and Herbert Frank, 52, were last seen Nov. 1 near scenic Mono Lake in California and their abandoned car was discovered four days later across the border in a remote section of southwestern Nevada.

The pair disappeared shortly after winning $10,000 on slot machines at a Reno casino and investigators are treating the case as a homicide. 'We are treating this as foul play,' said Tom Moots, the major crimes unit supervisor for the Nevada Division of Investigation. Authorities asked for the public's help in solving the case as a search turned up no sign of the men. Puschkeit and Frank arrived in the United States Oct. 21, when they rented a car at Los Angeles International Airport. In Reno, the pair won $10,000 and headed south, Moots said. Several days later, their car was discovered in a remote section near Hawthorne, Nev., with their suitcases, passports and other personal belongings inside. An air and ground search of the area was called off until after the Thanksgiving holiday because of a winter storm.
