Found Deceased CA - Wayde Rego, 35, Bear Creek Falls, Shingletown, 8 Apr 2018

The search for Wayde Richard Rego began Monday after two of his friends, Melissa Ellesbury and Michael Rozner, reported him missing. Ellesbury and Rozner spent Sunday afternoon with Rego in the area of Bear Creek Falls, about two miles north of Highway 44, in Shingletown.

The trio reportedly drank alcoholic beverages throughout the day and that Rego had become intoxicated. They began to leave around 6:30 p.m. and Ellesbury and Rozner noticed Rego was not following them as they walked to their parked vehicle on Ponderosa Way. Rozner walked back to the waterfalls area to try to find Rego, but he could not find him.

Rego stands 6 feet, weighs 190 pounds and has red hair and green eyes. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie-type sweatshirt, blue jeans, tan boots and a black baseball cap. Rego does not have a cell phone or a vehicle.

Missing Redding man's family upset by search effort

Family members of a missing Redding man have flocked to Shasta County from all over the West to help with a search they worry law enforcement officials haven't been taking seriously enough — something sheriff's officials adamantly deny.

"They're completely leaving us in the dark," said 24-year-old Nevada resident Cheilsey Peterson, a relative of missing man Wayde Rego. "Now we can only hope to find a live body."

The sheriff's office said in its initial news release that deputies searched for Rego at about 2 a.m. Monday, then more deputies and a California Highway Patrol helicopter were on the lookout during the day.

They noted in the press release that the area where Rego was last seen is "very steep and rocky, and the water is running at a high volume."

Bertain said searchers were out Wednesday and plan to go back out Thursday, though.

Bosenko also noted that stormy weather has been making aerial searches more challenging, but divers also are scouting the waterways near where Rego was last seen so they can expand their search to there if the flows aren't too rough.

The Shasta County Coroner's Office will be "actively" investigating the circumstances of Rego's death, Bertain said.
