Circumstances of Disappearance On 05/04/1995, at approximately 0830 hours, William Earl Schmitt left his residence in Sonora, CA to go fishing at New Melones Lake. Schmitt was supposed to return home at approximately 1330 hours, but never arrived. At approximately 1600 hours, Schmitt's boat was found empty and running underneath the Parrott's Ferry bridge on the lake.
