"The investigation took part in 17 countries with 19 child victims identified, and 41 people arrested.

Seven suspects – from the age of 12 to 44 – were arrested in York Region and face 17 criminal charges.

Police say as many as 2,000 boys around the world may be victims connected to an online child sexual exploitation investigation.

The multi-jurisdictional investigation began after York Police raided a home in April 2014, as part of “Project Hydra,” after it was determined two child photos were uploaded to an online social networking application where strangers could exchange child around the world.

Investigators found that the young person who uploaded the images had been a victim of child exploitation and was coerced to upload the photos.

The investigation expanded to include the Ontario Provincial Police, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the FBI and Interpol.

Police said victims are believed to be in 17 countries including Canada, the United States, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Australia and Russia and possibly elsewhere."

"OPP calls crimes 'monstrous'

Matthew Stentz, the attaché for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations Office in Canada, said the information turned up by York police led to around 100 more investigations in the U.S.

"We will leave no stone unturned," Stentz said.

Ontario Provincial Police Det. Staff Sgt. Frank Goldschmidt said his force sent forensic technicians to assist with the investigation. He called the crimes revealed by Project Hydra "monstrous."

"Every child has the right to be nurtured and the right to be safe," Goldschmidt said.

Police also took the opportunity to warn parents to be vigilant in speaking with their children about the dangers of sharing images online and to report any suspicions immediately."

The New Brunswick RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit is seeking the public’s help to identify victims of a man who had been sexually exploiting boys online from at least January 2012 until the fall of 2014. Investigators have determined that this man was luring boys online by pretending to be a teenaged girl. The investigation indicates the possible victims are as young as 10 and up to 16 years old and may not even be aware they have been victimized. Police have charged a 24-year-old Moncton man, who cannot be named because of a court ordered publication ban, with several sex offences.

In addition to those offences, the investigation has shown the man contacted boys through live video chats on various social media sites. He used a video of a teenaged girl that appeared to be live and convinced the boys to undress and initiate sex acts which he then taped and distributed via the Internet. One chat website he used frequently was Omegle.com, a site that requires no username where people can chat with strangers from all over the world."

I wonder the same thing, with there being both potential suspects, I take that to mean have not yet been charged but should be and victims near William's disappearance.

It was never explained why they suspected a pedo ring early on in Williams disappearance.
