There's an article with some info in the Globe: Brothers in botched B.C. bank robbery had become angry and radical, obsessed with guns and ‘government tyranny’
They grew up and went to rural schools in the villages of Cowichan Bay/Mill Bay, not in the town of Duncan.
"As children, according to their closest friends, they were shy, a little nerdy and liked fantasy novels and Star Wars figurines. One was rarely found without the other. Following graduation, they seemed to drop off the face of the Earth, ghosting their former friends. According to one of the brothers’ online footprints, he was becoming increasingly angry and radical, obsessed with guns, explosives and perceptions of government tyranny".
The article indicates one former friend, who followed their instagram but was not in contact, was concerned about their posts and thought possibly they could do something like this.
Unfortunately no one flagged them to police. I guess people who saw those posts were either no friend to police themselves or still loyal to former friends.
"Government tyranny" my ***.
These guys had nothing but freedom, not a single responsibility in the world. IMO, that's the problem, young men like that are free to hide away, wasting their time playing heros in an imaginery war, instead of being forced to go out into the real world and make a life for themselves.
