Stephens was last seen leaving his residence in Gimli, Manitoba on July 19, 1970. He had planned to go fishing at the Whiteshell Provincial Park and told his wife that he would return on July 21. He's never been seen or heard from since. His wife reported him missing on July 22 when he failed to return home.
Stephens' vehicle was later found abandoned near Falcon Beach on August 1, 1970. Despite extensive ground, lake, and air searches conducted, he was never located.
