Search on for missing toddler at Wapiti River

Police are looking for a two-year-old boy who went missing near the Wapiti River in western Alberta on Friday evening.

RCMP say the toddler was with his family near the Canfor Bridge in the Municipal District of Greenview, Alta., when he disappeared.

They say officers are helping the Grande Prairie Technical Search and Rescue and STARS Air Ambulance search for the boy.

Fire Department post:

There is a search underway for a missing person on the wapiti river. Please stay away from area and let search and rescue do their job. Please stay away. I’d like to thank who ever brought the searchers pizza and water, coffee and doughnuts from Tim Hortons during the effort. That is really appreciated. Thank you.

Oh Please, not another one:(

I am literally missing a family reunion today because it's on the water. I couldn't do it. I hate the water anyway and after August... I got a tension headache even thinking about going. I just stayed home.

Just too many every year. It's awful.

RCMP, #gpab Technical Search & Rescue are still looking for a little boy who went missing by the Wapiti River Friday night.

Some people are putting teddy bears on their front yards to support the family, others are donating food/supplies to rescue crews.

Missing since Friday night. Sunday (almost noon here). I don't like the time factor for this precious little one. Praying for a miracle.

These cases are always so upsetting to me since they are preventable. Ugh. Poor little one.

I’d like to know more specific details about how he disappeared. There isn’t much being said. I’m guessing that’s deliberate.

Looking at the pictures of where the search is taking place---hard to understand how one loses track of a 2 yr old around such a dangerous area for a toddler.

Were they camping and he got away during nap time?

katy, the pix of river look scary. This little guy would be the loser in that river, I hope he didn't get into the water.

This is too sad to contemplate, just say a prayer for this child. I hope he is found soon.
