Cathy was 21 years old when she was last seen in St. Andrews, Manitoba on August 22nd, 1988. She visited some friends in Winnipeg while in town to fill out a job application. The initial press release stated that she was last seen by a male acquaintance who reported that Cathy had left her purse in a friend's vehicle and intended to retrieve it, only to never return or be heard from again.

Authorities have been careful about releasing information in Cathy's case. They have since said that Cathy was also seen at the Santa Lucia and several other bars on St. Mary's Road in Winnipeg the evening she went missing. Her adoptive mother told the media that she found a letter from Cathy following her disappearance that made it sound as though she were "saying goodbye." Cathy's case is open and active but she remains missing. Foul play is suspected.

On August 22, 1988, Cathy Williams left her residence in St. Andrews, Manitoba to go to Winnipeg to fill out a job application. She had made arrangements to meet a male acquaintance who was going to help her complete the application. During the late afternoon and early evening, Cathy and her friend attended two bars and eventually ended up at a restaurant. Cathy left her friend at the restaurant to go to the residence of another male acquaintance who had invited her for a visit. She indicated that she had to get her purse from her friends car and she was going to be back in half an hour. Cathy was reported missing by her mother on the morning of August 23, 1988. Cathy has not been seen or heard from since.
