Mom waiting for call from missing man

For Sue Kearns, it is the agony of not knowing whether her missing son is dead or alive that kills her.

David Luborsky, a young father who regularly phoned his mom, vanished without a trace in Ottawa in November 2010.

He would celebrate his 35th birthday on April 26.

Kearns said her heart still skips a beat when the phone rings, wondering if it will be her son.

But more than a year after Luborsky disappeared, that call has never come, despite Kearns hiring a private investigator and offering a reward.

I don't see this man in the OPP missing persons database for Ontario, or on the Ottawa Police website as a missing person. Seems his family is doing a lot to keep his name and picture in the news - wondering what Ottawa police are doing.

It is the not knowing that kills Susan Kearns.

This past weekend marked two years since her son, David Luborsky, vanished without a trace in Ottawa.

She still struggles to believe the young father, who regularly phoned his family, has simply disappeared.

“It’s almost like a numbness,” said Kearns on Monday. “It’s always with you. I just want to know.”

Clock ticking on missing persons

Sue and John Kearns noted Thursday [May 2012] was their son David’s 35th birthday.

David Kearns, who has schizophrenia, disappeared from his Ottawa residence Nov. 4, 2010.

“He was looking for an apartment for himself, he had a son, things were looking up for him, he was doing really well. He walked away from his complex never to be heard from again,” said Sue.

“The police were on it for about a month; they couldn’t find him. We hired a private investigator. He was on it for about six months and then he called me and said, ‘I’ve stopped charging you because I can’t find anything. Usually with a missing person I find something, but with your son, David, I can find nothing.’”

John said there was no indication David took any of his belongings as all of his possessions were still at his residence.

His bank account has showed no activity since his disappearance.

“It’s like he just disappeared into thin air,” said John.

“He just vanished.”

So many missing people. Some cases are investigated thoroughly by LE and other cases are looked into for a month if lucky and that is it...

His family says that he’d been increasingly agitated before he left.

Kuzma said Machin had been “calling him and calling him,” something she denies.===================================================

I would like to know more about this. It should be easy for cops to find out if she had really been 'calling and calling him' in the days before he went missing.

If she had, and she lied, then she might have lured him into danger. She has two big motives imo. Keeping him away from the child if she thinks he is wanting to fight for shared custody, esp. if she thinks he has mental issues. AND her child receives the $$$ if he is declared dead.

On the other hand, if she didn't make the phone calls, then his statement could be interpreted differently. The 'calling and calling' him could have been voices in his head, and he may have been suffering a meltdown.

What is this about? Not making the connections, although it's from 2011.

I think David is still missing, the FB group is still there, the last post was in 2020 saying he had been missing for 10 years
