[h=1]Police say death of man who fell down garbage chute from 9th floor is 'suspicious'[/h][h=2]Fire crews extricated the man from the garbage chute system above the compactor[/h]CBC News · Posted: Mar 28, 2018
The man is believed to be in his 30s.
Acting Staff Sgt. Chazz Stern, of Toronto police's 53 Division, said police received a call about unknown trouble in the building on Erskine Avenue, near Eglinton Avenue East and Mount Pleasant Road, at about 10 p.m.
"We're still investigating, but we're treating it as a suspicious death," Stern said Wednesday.
The man was located above the area where the garbage is compacted. He said it was "difficult" situation because it was a confined space.
"That's a fairly complicated operation for us," Pegg said Wednesday.
"They dissembled what needed to be taken apart. And ultimately, they were able to access the patient. Then from there, it becomes the responsibility of police and paramedics."
