Circumstances of Disappearance:
Runstedler was last seen near Lougheed, Alberta on May 23, 1983. He had been partying with campers at the local campground east of town and was last seen hitchhiking on the south side of Highway 13. It is believed that he was heading back to his rented farmhouse, 3 kilometers east of Lougheed, although some reports state he may have been traveling to Ontario. His personal items were left behind at his residence.
Prior to his disappearance, Runstedler was working at the Lougheed Hotel and had been living with two roommates, one of whom moved out two months before. He wasn't reported missing until January 10, 1984, after a postmistress grew concerned about his mounting pile of mail and contacted his parents in Ottawa.
Searches via telephone records, credit cards, banks, immigration, social services, motor vehicle branch, and unemployment insurance records have not uncovered any information regarding Runstedler's whereabouts. He has never been seen or heard from again.
