Peel police say that they are in the process of issuing an Amber Alert for a missing five-year-old boy who is believed to be in the company of his mother.

Police say that Ethan Montes was last seen at his school in the Cawthra Road and Atwater Avenue area of Mississauga sometime between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

They say that he is believed to be with his mother, 47-year-old Juliet Mohammed.

“Juliet does have some preexisting medical conditions that require medication and if she does not take that medication it does cause her to act of character,” Akhil Mooken told CP24 on Thursday afternoon. “Attempts to contact Juliet have been unsuccessful and there is concern for both her wellbeing as well as the wellbeing of Ethan.”

Mooken said that Ethan’s father reported him missing at around 9:30 a.m. after Mohammed failed to return home with him on Wednesday.

He said that he “can’t speak to the thought process of the father” and doesn’t know why he waited to contact police.

The father and the mother are married and live together at an address in Mississauga with Ethan, Mooken said.

“This is completely out of character for Juliet to not have any contact with her husband. By all indications they were supposed to return home to their residence yesterday once Ethan was completed at school,” he said.

Mother and child may be in London area

Mooken said police have received information suggesting that Mohammed may have taken Montes to the London, Ontario area after picking him up from school on Wednesday.

Though an Amber Alert has not yet been issued, Mooken said that investigators are working in coordination with Ontario Provincial Police and expect one to be issued in the “very near future.”

Police add that Julia has preexisting medical condition and that she does take medication for it.

But that her medical condition can get her to ‘act out of character.’

@PeelPoliceMedia say there is concern for both Julia and Ethan at this time.

"KFC employee in Tilbury calls 911 after recognizing child in Amber Alert"
"When Taylor spoke with an employee, she learned that that employee had been the one to recognize the boy in the Amber Alert.

"They got some food and she said they were sitting and eating, and the mom kept kind of getting up and going to the bathroom and would leave her son in the restaurant kind of thing," Taylor recalled her conversation with the staff.

Taylor said the employee described the woman as "a little bit off."

We received the 1st Alert for Ethan at approx 5:11pm. The alert gave descriptions of both people, make and plate # of car and approx time they were last seen (between 3 and 4 in Mississauga). It takes AT LEAST 2 hrs, more likely 2.5-3 hrs to drive the actual distance they traveled on a good traffic day with no construction or rush hour delays on the 401. Back roads take a good 30 minutes longer. I am 10 minutes from where they were found safe and have made the drive to Cawthra Rd. to visit friends many times so am familiar with travel times. Facebook posts from Tilbury that I read in real time that day and had a picture of the car with plate # visible indicating mother and child were located no later than 5:20, not between 6 and 7 as listed in the above article that has the interview with Andrea Taylor.

Kudos to the KFC employee for reading the alert and being attentive to her environment even though logic would dictate that timing wise it would have been difficult to end up at the location they did in the time frame the alert gave.
