Circumstances of Disappearance:
Meng, (29) a student at Algonquin College, and another man, Chen Yuan (20), both international students from China, were last seen boating on the Ottawa River near the Britannia Beach and Park in an inflatable dinghy. A concerned passerby at Britannia Beach called police at around 6 p.m. that day as the men attempted to go to the Aylmer shoreline or the Gatineau shoreline. According to police, they would have been caught up in the current and swept right into the rapids, and that the rapids presumably overwhelmed their vessel.

The police later got a call from the people the men were supposed to meet up with who said the two boaters had gone missing. The inflatable yellow boat and a life jacket were recovered the next day, east of the Deschenes Rapids. Police believed the boaters only had one ore and one life jacket on board at the time of the incident. However, it's unclear whether either passenger was wearing the flotation device.

Police and fire crews searched the river by boat, plane, and on foot but there was no sign of the boaters. Days later, Yuan's body was recovered from the river near Cumberland, according to an Ottawa Police Service media release. Meng has never been found.

Haha! Wish I noticed that before my editing hour expired. That's what I get for cutting and pasting without proper proofreading. Happens to me all the time.
