"Three low-fidelity photos of an unidentified individual could hold clues in the disappearance of Happy Charles.

On Thursday, Prince Albert Police Service released the images and asked anyone with information about the person to contact investigators.

Charles was 42-years-old when she went missing more than two years ago. At the time of her disappearance, she had five children and two grandchildren.

She reportedly left her home in La Ronge to go to Prince Albert on April 1, 2017. She reportedly messaged her mom and told her she was at the Prince Albert Inn during the evening of April 2, 2017."

"Video footage shows Charles at Walmart in the city with her boyfriend the next day. She was last seen the same day walking alone by Kinsmen Park and Central Avenue just before midnight, according to Prince Albert Police Service.

Police said the newly released photos are enhanced screen captures from surveillance video shot at the high school near where Charles was last seen. The video was captured around that same time. "

"When Carson Poitras saw a news story on social media saying that human remains were found near Prince Albert, Sask., he says he thought, "Yes, we found her. They found our daughter."

But when he called police he was told the remains are not believed to be those of his stepdaughter, Happy Charles.

"It was so close to the Prince Albert area where our daughter was last seen. We had our hopes up that we could finally get some closure," Poitras said.

The RCMP announced Friday evening they had found human remains, two days after the discovery was made during a police ground search in a rural area near Prince Albert.

Happy Charles, 42, has been missing since early April 2017.

Poitras and his wife Regina, Happy Charles's mother, said their family should have been told whether the remains belonged to their daughter before the news release was sent out.

"It's very hard because I have to tell the girls," said Regina Poitras, referring to Charles's daughters.

"They're always messaging me like, 'Who was it that they found? Was it mom?"

The Poitras family is one of several who endure an emotional roller coaster each time human remains are found in Prince Albert and other parts of Saskatchewan."

Non-profit organization creating billboards for missing Saskatchewan people
''Thomas has been working with Happy Charles‘ family since 2017. The mother was last seen in Prince Albert, Sask., and there haven’t been many tips leading to her whereabouts.

Thomas noticed there wasn’t much awareness about missing people in Canada while they were searching for Charles.

Funded by the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Commemoration Fund, a billboard of Charles will stand in Prince Albert.''

“The family believes that their mother’s billboard standing publicly can provide some more answers, some more tips and in a way it kind of helps them feel like their voice is being heard,” Thomas said.

“It’ll be a continuous reminder that this person is still missing and family is still looking for her.”

Happy Charles’ billboard will be unveiled following an awareness walk on Sept. 11.''

'Carson Poitras is living with a wound every day that, for more than six years, still hasn’t healed.
On the 10th anniversary of missing persons week in Saskatchewan, there were 137 long-term missing people listed in an online database. Among them is Poitras’ daughter, Happy Charles, who has been missing since April 3, 2017.''

''Monday’s walk, which went along Wascana Drive to the Saskatchewan Missing Persons Tree, was attended by other families with missing loved ones, including the family of Mekayla Bali, the teen last seen in Yorkton on April 12, 2016.

A bench was unveiled and dedicated to the families of missing people. Participants from the walk placed flowers at the base of the oak tree in Wascana Park.''

Her family has been searching, hosting walks and trying to raise awareness of her case any way they can.'

"We're really trying to get the public to come forward," Edwardsen said. "These families, they're the ones we're working for. We hope they can find peace."

The Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) is actively investigating a missing person case involving Happy Charles, who was last seen in the city on April 3, 2017.

Despite recent rumours circulating in the community that she has been found, authorities have confirmed that Happy Charles has not been located at this time.

PAPS remain dedicated to locating Happy Charles and urges anyone with information regarding her whereabouts to come forward.

Charles was last seen on April 3, 2017, in the area of the Prince Albert Collegiate Institute Kinsmen Park area, 45-20th Street West.

In June 2020, police followed up on information that identified a possible location connected to Charles' disappearance and searched a rural area outside of the city. The police, however, were unsuccessful in their search saying unfortunately, the area described was vast and the information wasn’t enough to determine the exact location identified.

“Every day, we think about our daughter and every day, we think when we get some tips coming through that ‘Okay, this is the day we’re going to bring our daughter home,’” said Carson Poitras, Charles’ step-father.

Poitras said someone reached out to the family on Monday, saying that she’s alive in Prince Albert. The La Ronge family was contemplating whether or not to come search the city.

“Everybody’s heart was just going and so we said ‘Well, we might as well just get in the truck and go,’” he described.''

''Poitras said they passed the information on to Prince Albert police. In a news release, the police service said Charles has not been located and they’re still investigating.

Charles was 42 years old when she went missing in April 2017. Security cameras last spotted her near Prince Albert Collegiate Institute around midnight.

In May, Poitras and Charles’ mother, Regina Poitras, announced plans to open an independent missing persons office in Prince Albert.''

“It’s the first time in a long time I had hope,” said Margaret Bird, Charles’ daughter, who also came to Prince Albert to search.

“It’s just kind of soul crushing to come here and not have found anything.”
