It seems odd to me that LE have not held a press conference and there has been no announcement to students as to the homicide and their safety on campus. Also, was it a student who was killed or someone not affiliated with the university, perhaps a homeless person sleeping on the bench near where the homicide took place, etc.? Odd to me that there is no information provided to the public, particularly to students.

Homicide unit investigating after body found on University of Toronto campus

Toronto police’s homicide unit is investigating after a man was found dead on the University of Toronto campus on Thursday morning.

''On Thursday, Lisa Dolovich, dean of U of T’s Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, notified faculty, students, and staff of an “incident on campus,” which she indicated occurred directly north of the pharmacy building.

“Toronto Police and Campus Safety are present and investigating the site. We have been informed that there is no risk to the surrounding area and that operations can proceed as planned,” she wrote.

Dolovich advised that there may be restrictions to certain walkways in the surrounding area while the investigation is ongoing.

She also reminded students of resources available to them at the U of T community.

Seeing a body covered by an orange tarp was unsettling for students as they arrived for morning classes.''

The Toronto Police Service is updating the public on a Homicide investigation.

On Thursday, March 20, 2025, at approximately 8:21 a.m., emergency services responded to a call in the Queen's Park Crescent and College Street area.
It is reported that:

• the victim was located laying on the ground with visible injuries
• officers began lifesaving measures
• the victim was pronounced deceased on scene

The victim has been identified as Mario Ferreira, 60, of Toronto.
Officers immediately commenced an investigation and obtained video footage of the area.
It was discovered that:

• the victim was laying on a bench in the area of 6 Queen's Park Crescent
• the suspect approached the victim with an object and assulted him, the assault is believed to be unprovoked
• the suspect then fled the area on foot

The suspect is described as male, medium to large build, approximately 200 lbs., with a black beard and black hair in short dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing a beige camouflage short sleeve shirt, black pants, black shoes, and a black and blue backpack.
The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous. If you see the suspect, do not approach him, please call 911 immediately.
Images of the suspect have been released.
This is Toronto's 5th Homicide of 2025.''

A suspect wanted in connection with an “unprovoked” assault on a man who was later found dead on the University of Toronto’s downtown campus on Thursday morning has been arrested.

''Hours later, police announced that the suspect had been arrested. Sources told CP24 the man, identified as 31-year-old Adimabua Chukwuka, was apprehended in 51 Division and that a member of the public called 911 after they saw his photo.
