''Michael Mcduff-Jalbert, 35, was arrested on Tuesday and charged him with first-degree murder. He appeared briefly in a Longueuil courtroom on Wednesday.

Police arrested him after new technology gave them a break in the case, said Pierre Duquette, the chief inspector of the major crimes division at the Service de police de l'agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL), at a news conference Wednesday morning.''

“The (Longueuil police) cannot release information about the investigation, nor explain in detail what allowed us to make an arrest, in order to not interfere with the judicial process,” Duquette said.

However, he said specific forensic science methods “allowed us to make progress in the investigation and obtain new elements that allowed the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions to lay charges against the suspect.”

Duquette noted the cold-case division is the same squad that solved the 1975 killing of 16-year-old Sharron Prior last year. In that case, Duquette said it was continued advancements in DNA that helped solved the crime.''
