“This is a complex investigation that spans multiple jurisdictions,” Sgt. Timothy Pierotti of IHIT said. “There are people out there who have seen Ms. Garie and Mr. Kasim over the past week, and we are urging them to come forward immediately.”

On Monday, police officers found Garie and Kasim in a vehicle near École Alpha Secondary School in the area of Alpha Avenue and Venables Street.

Burnaby murder victim was known to police

IHIT identified Kiesha Garie and Umair Kasim as the people found in a vehicle near Alpha Secondary.

''One of the murder victims found Monday near a Burnaby high school was the subject of civil forfeiture action almost two years ago.

On Wednesday, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team identified Kiesha Garie, 24, and Umair Kasim, 30, as the people found in a vehicle near Alpha Secondary. IHIT has not explained why Garie and Kasim were together.

The Director of Civil Forfeiture claimed that Kasim’s 2017 Acura MDX, seized Sept. 4, 2020, by the Delta Police Department, was the proceeds of crime. ''

“Mr. Kasim is prohibited from possessing firearms and has a criminal record that includes failure to comply and trafficking in a controlled substance,” said the November 2020 B.C. Supreme Court court application. ''

I was assuming they were a couple but by the sounds of it the police arent sure why they were together. Strange.
