Garrett's husband and friends reported her missing on July 19, 1961. They were on a fishing trip near the mouth of the Moose Brook River in Northesk Parish, New Brunswick. The four of them shared a car and parked near the trailhead. The men hiked across a trail until they reached the water to fish. The women remained in the car. Shortly after, Garett complained about the heat and bugs and started down the same trail as the men, but never returned. She has never been heard from again and her whereabouts remain unknown.
