"Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service officers attended a private residence on Oak Court, Akwesasne, Quebec to conduct a “welfare” check. A female was found deceased in the home. The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service has determined that the death is suspicious in nature. The New York State Police are assisting."

Troopers say they received a phone call around 12:50 a.m. Tuesday from the Twin Leaf gas station in Fort Covington indicating that 26-year-old Ryan Lazore had possibly killed someone at a Snye residence

Lazore allegedly killed his mother Laurie Lazore with a knife which was seized by Akwesasne Mohawk police, according to U.S. federal court documents. Lazore told the troopers he had been in a fight with his mother and cut her “everywhere,” according to the court documents.

Lazore not criminally responsible for 2014 Akwesasne murder

Ryan Lazore was held in a New York State holding facility before being extradited to Canada in March 2015.

Over the last two years, the case made its way through the Quebec judicial process with a number of appearances.

On June 19, 2017 a court found Lazore not criminally responsible for his mother’s death, according to a court official with the Valleyfield Provincial Court when contacted by CNW.

Lazore has been sent to the Institut Philippe-Pinel de Montreal – a psychiatric hospital for people accused of crimes and found to be not criminally responsible due to mental disorder.
