Canada- Major gold heist at Pearson International Airport, Toronto, Ontario, April 2023

This is sooo interesting to see how this was done. First, just to steal the gold, but then to be able to get it out of the country.

'Organized crime likely aided in gold heist

''In April 2024, five suspects were arrested and three Canada-wide arrest warrants were issued for suspects, with a fourth suspect in custody in the United States.
The suspects have since been released on bail, whereas two other suspects are believed to be in the U.K., India and/or Dubai.''

''In the June 2024 board meeting, police alleged that some of the suspects were additionally involved in aspects of firearms trafficking.
A video released during the meeting states that there were 65 illegal firearms seized in relation to the 24Karat investigation.
“This isn’t just about gold, this is about how gold becomes guns,” Peel Regional Police Board Chair member Nando Iannicca said in the video. “And gold can be remade, but people’s lives, and what happens when guns are involved, cannot.”

''The Federal Court has ordered Air Canada to pay security company Brink’s over $18,000 for the gold shipment worth $20 million stolen at Toronto Pearson International Airport in 2023.

Judge Cecily Strickland handed her decision this week, stating Air Canada’s liability for the loss of the stolen shipment is limited to the amount prescribed under the Montreal Convention - a multilateral treaty that establishes airline liability in cases of delay, damage or loss of baggage and cargo as well as death or injury to passengers''.

Wow, that's such a small judgement that it doesn't even amount to a slap on the wrist.

$18,000 is the max liability for the airline? It seems to me that should be updated.

I think airlines have the upper hand. If you want something guaranteed, go ahead and fly your own plane...

Brinks knows better than to use Fedex to ship cash across town - IMO they were slack in not ensuring their own security were on hand to watch the gold unloaded and pick it up right away.
