On September 21, 1986 Melodie Riegel was found deceased inside unit #320 of the Pan American Motel, formerly located at 10630 Kingsway Ave.
An autopsy determined she had died as a result of strangulation.

''The room was registered to a man named Bruce Stevens claiming to be from Grande Prairie, but police believe both details were fictitious.
The man had checked in to Room 320 at 11:00 p.m. the night Riegel disappeared.
Riegel, who went by the name Tasha, was approximately 5’2", 100 pounds with blonde hair.
She was last wearing a purple leather jacket, a blue and black turtleneck sweater, blue jeans and white boots.''
