''A mother and daughter were found dead inside a home in Montreal's Lachine borough early Thursday morning in what police are now calling a double homicide.
A Montreal police spokesperson said officers first received a call about a disappearance just past midnight.
About an hour later, a short investigation led them to a home on J.-S.-Aimé-Ashby Terrace, a quiet street ringing a small park near Highway 20 in southwestern Montreal.
After entering the home, they found two bodies. Police later said the two dead were a mother, 56, and daughter,12.''

''Police initially assessed the deaths as "suspicious." But around 9 a.m., they began calling the incident a double homicide.

It was the third time in as many nights that police reported homicides in the city.''

''What began as a missing persons case early Thursday has become a homicide investigation after the bodies of a 56-year-old woman and her 12-year-old daughter were found in a residence in the borough of Lachine.''

It remained unclear Thursday morning what connection, if any, existed between the missing person and the bodies found in the residence.

Emergency vehicles and crime scene tape surrounded the residence Thursday morning, a police command post had been deployed and the park in front of the residence has been closed to the public.

This story will be updated.''

'Authorities say they found the family vehicle abandoned by the Lachine canal later Thursday morning and are looking at nearby security footage. The car will be included as part of the crime scene investigation.'

“It’s shocking, it’s heartbreaking and it is as devastating as it can be without being personally involved,” one neighbour told Global News.

Another neighbour, Nora Xu, said the family was often seen on walks around the area.

Officers say they are still looking for the person who placed the initial 911 call, who may be a suspect in the case.''
