Police are investigating after an unidentified body was found in a creek near the ramp from Highway 401 to Thickson Road in Whitby.

Ontario Provincial Police say that officers from their Whitby detachment located the body on Thursday after receiving a report.

Officers from the Highway Safety Division’s crime unit and forensics specialists are currently part of the investigation. Police haven’t said whether they consider the death suspicious.

A post-mortem examination of the body is expected on Friday.

The woman’s identity is not known at this time.

Police say her body was discovered in a creek near the highway.

In a release the OPP would only say that she had “short dark hair.

He said it appears the deceased woman may have been in the creek “for some time.”

“Investigators are seeking assistance from the public in this investigation,” Schmidt said.

Provincial police have identified a body found in a Whitby ditch last week as that of a missing Toronto woman.

I doubt she put herself in that ditch. I think she was dumped there. JMO
