Sloat was last seen at a friend's residence in Ardrossan in December of 1986. According to his friend, Sloat was despondent when he left around midnight on his snowmobile. Sloat was invited to spend Christmas with friends but never showed up. Several days later he was reported missing by his family. His snowmobile, all of his possessions, and his identification were found at his home. His whereabouts remain unknown.
