Pierceland RCMP responded to a call of the discovery on the afternoon of April 21. Pierceland RCMP secured the human remains and an extensive search of the area was completed by Saskatchewan RCMP major crimes with negative results.

“A forensic autopsy was completed on Monday April 24th, 2023, in Saskatoon,” police stated. “The results of this autopsy have eliminated recent missing persons from the area.”

Police said the Saskatchewan RCMP historical case unit (HCU) has now taken over the file.''

"Authorities are asking anyone with any information about this case to call the Pierceland RCMP Detachment (306) 839-3330 or your local police service.

Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or at saskcrimestoppers.com.''

''Officers secured the remains. Nothing further was found during a search of the area.

A forensic autopsy completed April 24 eliminated the possibility that the remains belonged to any missing persons recently reported in the area.

Officers from the RCMP’s historical case unit have taken over the investigation.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Pierceland RCMP detachment, their own local police service, or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.

The Big Island Cree Nation is located about 380 km northwest of Saskatoon''

checked google maps and Big Island Lake Cree Nation seems to be just a little closer to Edmonton (by 3 1/2 hrs) vs Saskatoon (4hrs). It's very close to Alberta border.

''Members of a northern Saskatchewan First Nation are looking for answers after human remains were recently discovered in their community landfill.

"There are so many rumours going around saying it's so and so. It's pretty hard on families. We're pretty shaken up," said Geoffrey Sandfly, security director for Big Island Lake Cree Nation, which is about 320 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon.''

''Since 2020, the band has had more than 200 security cameras and 24-hour checkpoints at all community entrances. It started as a measure to curb the drug trade and gang activity, but also served to protect the community from COVID-19, he said.

RCMP said they've ruled out recent missing persons, but Sandfly said there are other older cases of missing community members who may fit the description.''

Police say they will also seek co-operation from families of missing people.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Pierceland RCMP at 306-839-3330, or their local police service.

Information can also be sent anonymously to Crime Stoppers online, or by calling 1-800-222-8477.

Big Island Lake is located roughly 350 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon.''
