Seven people were injured when they were allegedly stabbed in a vicious random attack by a man in an apartment building in Vancouver's downtown West End on Thursday evening.

When police arrived they found seven people suffering from stab wounds. Three men and three women were rushed to hospital with serious injuries. One person was treated at the scene.

Shortly afterwards a 33-year-old Vancouver man was arrested inside the building and taken into custody, said Sgt. Randy Fincham.

Fincham said the victims' ages range between 20 and more than 60, and they did not appear to know each other or their attacker.

Five of the victims are in serious but stable condition, but one woman in her sixties was in critical condition.

Suspect:

The suspect has been identified by police as Jerome Bonneric, 33, of Vancouver. He has been charged with:

Four counts of aggravated assault.
Four counts of assault with a weapon.
Three counts of common assault.
One count of assaulting a peace officer.

The man who went on a vicious stabbing spree in his own apartment building in Vancouver’s West End was not criminally responsible for his actions, a B.C. provincial court judge has ruled.

French national Jerome Bonneric admitted to his role in the Jan. 31, 2013 attacks, which sent seven people to hospital with various injuries, but pleaded not guilty – blaming the incident on a sudden psychotic break.
