Hamilton police have brought out the drones as they step up their search for a missing 80-year-old woman.
Shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday, Hamilton Police Service announced that its remotely piloted aircraft system has been dispatched to the area of King’s Forest Golf Course, which is just north of the Red Hill Valley Parkway and west of Greenhill Avenue, in the ongoing search for Shirley Love.

''The elderly woman was last seen Tuesday near her residence on Mount Albion Road walking south towards the Glendale Golf Course, which is south of the Red Hill Valley Parkway and west of Greenhill Avenue.
She is described as being white with an average build and short brown hair.
Police said Love is possibly wearing a grey jacket, black pants, grey shoes, and grey and black gloves.
#HamOnt, please continue to look out for Shirley. It’s getting cold and she’s not dressed for the weather. https://t.co/zaVLqu2t5I

Lots of comments about her route. I loved that a searcher left a winter coat and some drinks in the area just in case she would come across them and would use them.

''Police are using a drone, tracking dogs and help from volunteers as they search for an elderly woman missing from Hamilton’s east end.''

“She has developed over the last few months, and it progressed pretty rapidly – she’s got Alzheimer’s,” said Briggs, “we’re getting pretty concerned, at this point.”

Residents living in the Mount Albion area are asked to check their properties for Shirley, who is described as white with an average build and short light brown hair.

She was wearing a grey jacket, black pants, grey shoes and grey-and-black gloves.

“Everyone, friends and family are out trying to help,” added Briggs, “there’s quite a presence out there.”

The weather is cold and a storm is brewing, wondering if there is a vehicle of some kind that Ms Love may have entered to get warm or simply out of habit? imo.
Lengthy article, rbbm.

By Ritika Dubey
''Late Wednesday, there were still no signs of Shirley Love, the 80-year-old woman with dementia who went missing more than 24 hours earlier in east Hamilton.''

''As the day got darker, Nairn said she is losing hope. “(Thursday) is not going to be a good day at all weather-wise,” Perrotti added. A snowstorm is expected to hit Hamilton and neighbouring regions Thursday morning.''

''Hamilton police were camped at the golf course’s parking lot with their command post carrying out search operations in the neighbouring areas since Tuesday evening — including the canine unit, extra officers and an all-terrain vehicle making rounds in the neighbourhood.''

“She’s got a limp and bad shoulders. How far can she go?” said Perrotti.

''At least 40 volunteers — including members from the community not related to Love — signed up in the search for Love as of Wednesday afternoon, police officers at the scene confirmed.

Volunteers have searched for Love at her grade school, hairdresser, malls, parents’ home, her first home where she moved after her wedding, and the second home she moved to when her husband and she had kids, said Perrotti.

Meanwhile, Love’s husband remains at their Kings Forest Manor apartment in hopes that she returns, Rose Delottinville, Love’s former colleague from DARTS Transit said.''

''Delottinville, who has known Love for over 25 years, was on the search for her friend since Wednesday morning.

“It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack. She’s wearing mostly grey and black pants,” said Delottinville.''

The volunteers were asked to look down low including beaten paths, off of the sidewalks where Love could be physically stuck or had fallen down. Murphy also listed some behaviour patterns of people with dementia, including the possibility of her walking in a straight line.

“It doesn’t make sense,” said Nairn, “there are so many people looking (and she’s still missing).”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Division 1 staff sergeant at 905-546-4725.

I live relatively close and was thinking of volunteering to search but I’m not sure I can even get there.

It’s a miserable day. Cold, freezing rain, rain, and snow later.

It’s pretty much a skating rink out there. The Skyway will be a mess even if it remains open.

Poor Shirley. The elements are not going to work in her favour.

There are lots of wooded areas, creeks, water falls etc.

She needs to be found quickly.

I cannot believe they haven't issued a silver alert, Shirley's grandson has given a $5k reward - the weather is changing, and it's almost dark again

Pouring rain here again and the temp is dropping. Everything is going to freeze up.

If Shirley hasn’t found shelter I don’t think she will be able to withstand the elements. I don’t think I could.

MOO

My sister keep updating me on the weather and now it's dark, and it's been 2 days without food or drinks that we know of. People really need to be checking their yards, their cars, their sheds, garages, and everywhere. Awful.

Oh, heartbreaking. Shirley, please find your way home, you are so loved and so missed. I genuinely hope that she ended up at the hospital, or somewhere as equally safe and warm. Though, thinking of it now, LE would know if she was taken to the hospital by someone :/

She must have been caught on camera in the Summer Crest area... And having not been seen since makes me think she took shelter somewhere around there. This neighbourhood is very familiar to me from high school days.

I was hoping to wake up to - she was found - I can't believe they can't find her. I feel so anxious for the family.

I don't have a good feeling about this case. I sadly think she has already passed, and in a week or so someone will come across her body. But at least there will be closure.

But, maybe I'll be wrong and there will be happy news.....I hope so.

I sure hope she can be found (unlike Helen Robertson in 2017 from nearby Burlington, a similar case). She needs to come home to her family one way or another. Especially at this time of year.
