''Search crews are looking for a missing skier last seen at the Sun Peaks resort near Kamloops, B.C.

The Tk'emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment said it had received a missing person's report for Tomasz Jaholkowski, 68, whose last known movements were to check into a run at the resort around 11:35 a.m. PT Tuesday.

"Mr. Jaholkowski does not appear to have returned to his hotel room, nor has he been heard from since checking into the run on Tuesday," said Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn in a news release.''

The West Bowl Express chairlift offers skiers an expanded terrain beyond the resort boundaries.
“It’s a little bit chillier today. Yesterday, it was -1 for most of the day, so that’s actually pretty mild. We’re lucky,” notes Davies. “But yeah, just the concern is for the subject being out there this long in cold weather.”
Jaholkowski was last seen at the West Bowl Chairlift on Tod Mountain, but the search area is spread around the hill, both inbounds and out of bounds.
“West of the West Bowl chairlift, the new chairlift, and also far east past the eastern boundary of the ski resort,” says Davies. “It’s quite an extensive area.”
Jaholskowski is described as follows:
  • White
  • 5’10″
  • Approximately 180 lbs
  • Grey hair
  • Brown eyes
  • Last seen wearing a red and black ski jacket, dark ski pants, and a dark toque.
“We’re reaching out to the public to see if maybe after that 11:35 a.m check-in on that run that maybe somebody came across him in a different area, and they can help us maybe narrow down some of the areas to continue looking,” reiterates Cpl. Evelyn.''

...Already this year there have been three separate search and rescue operations since Nov. 30 to recover six people who went beyond resort boundaries. All but one were found alive.

Two skiers and one snowboarder were most recently found alive in a gully earlier this week. Kamloops Search and Rescue was called for the third time to help ski patrollers with search operations.

Before that, the search for 68-year-old Tomasz Jaholkowski ended when crews found his body out of bounds.

Whether the new lift brings a prospect of newly available mountain terrain or it's because there are simply more riders at the peak than before that's tempting people to venture beyond the boundaries isn't clear, but Antoniak said the Mount Tod's terrain can be deceIving.
