''The Toronto Humane Society says it is heartbroken following the Monday night robbery of a van carrying materials that it says are essential to saving animals' lives.

Security video shows two men breaking into the building's basement garage using a pry bar at around 11 p.m.. They are then seen driving away with the van, which costs between $40,000 and $50,000, according to the Humane Society.

A spokesperson for the organization says the van is an important part of its operation.

"The van is very much more than just a van," Hannah Sotropa said.

"It's a mobile machine, a lifeline."

The organization says the materials in the van are worth another $10,000. They include a plasma cutter, industrial pressure washers and several walkie talkies. In all, the Humane Society says, it amounts to a total of around $60,000 in stolen property. No one was injured, the society says, and police are investigating.''

''The Toronto Humane Society has raised enough money to cover repairs and replace property stolen after a break-in on Monday.

On Tuesday, the humane society said that two individuals broke into its building and stole rescue items and the van the organization uses to transport animals during medical events.''

''In an email on Thursday, the chief executive officer of the Toronto Humane Society, Jacques Messier, said the organization had raised the money in less than two days. With the money, Messier said the funds covered the cost of repairs, stolen property and increasing its building’s security.''

Nothing upsets me more than crimes involving animals. Nasty garbage people

What would they want with this kind of van? Is it the same kind they used in the human smuggling case in Manitoba? My first thought was animal tranquilizers and equipment.

Animal control should pick them up lol

so sick of the thieving and other crimes happening in Ontario - it's almost widespread mayhem

If these guys get away with it this time, they might try it at other animal services, imo, wonder what happens to the supplies?

My 2 cents: illegal exotic animals, van sent to a chop shop, dog fights, pressure washer for "cleaning", resell equipment, use the van for trafficking, supplies used for questionable purposes etc.
