Missing mans wife files complaint

January 17, 2011

It has been almost two years since Wesley Foulds went missing, and last week his wife filed a formal complaint against the Abbotsford Police, who she claims have dropped the ball on the investigation.

Shelby Bernard is upset that her husbands truck, found well off the route he should have been taking, and with his blood on the seats, has been repossessed. She thinks the police should have held it as evidence.

Notes on Wesley's character:

He was the kind of guy who never missed a day of work.
He was the kind of uncle who would drop everything for his niece.

She said interviews with friends would have discounted the possibility that Foulds committed suicide, or purposely dropped out of his life.
Bernard said her common-law husband was a dedicated family man, with no drinking or drug problems. She read his journal, and said even when he went through a divorce and lost his family, which was his most emotional time, there was no reference to suicide.
Silcox could find no sign that Foulds had a private life that his family and friends did not know about.

Wesley was a very loving, nurturing and caring man. He was a home care worker. He worked with a handicapped gentleman for 10 years. They were almost like brothers, the way they treated each other.

While he didn’t mind being near a lake to watch friends and family frolicking, he was apparently “petrified” of large bodies of water and not one to voluntarily visit such sites...
...he was far from an outdoors enthusiast, he was not fit, and he suffered from severe asthma and allergies – Weinberger said her brother wasn’t one to even consider hiking on a mountainside trail like the one where his truck was found.

Bernard believes the person seen in her husband's truck must have been an acquaintance, and could be the person responsible for his disappearance. "Wes wasn't the type that would pick up people, hitchhikers and that. He was very safety-savvy," she said.

After reviewing everything, here is what I am thinking (all just my opinion/speculation of course):

I don't believe that there is any evidence strong enough to support a suicide or runaway theory.
I don't believe that Wesley was with an acquaintance.
I do believe that Wesley was carjacked with a dangerous weapon, possibly a gun, and forced to drive to or near Mission (the opposite direction of Burnaby, where he was supposed to have his doctor's appointment but never arrived).
I do believe that the small amount of his blood found in his truck could be consistent with a smaller head wound, I am thinking from an "intimidation" hit to the head - enough to scare but not disable him.
I do believe that Wesley was still driving the truck with the carjacker as the passenger when the truck was spotted driving too slowly along the highway, and that from there the truck headed North to Hayward lake.
I do believe (I feel sick typing this) that Wesley was "disposed of" somewhere near where his truck was found, and dumped in the water.
I don't believe that any calls were erased from Wesley's phone. I think the calls from work were not showing due to the phone being in a remote area with likely poor reception.

I would be much interested to hear what other sleuths have to say about all this. I know this isn't exactly a hot case, but Wesley's family still very much deserves answers. It is evident that he is very, very loved.

COLD CASE: Wesley Foulds went missing on March 4, 2009; his truck was found in Mission - Mission City Record

Wesley Foulds of Abbotsford was last seen on March 4, 2009. His case has now been posted on a national missing-persons website.

An Abbotsford missing-person case that is over 10 years old has made its way onto a national website in hopes of generating new information.

"The case involves Wesley Foulds, who was last seen on March 4, 2009 at the age of 52.

Foulds left his Abbotsford home that morning for a doctor’s appointment in Burnaby, but never showed up nor did he turn up in Whonnock – west of Mission – for his shift for a company that runs group homes and day programs for adults with disabilities.

The following day, Foulds’ red 2007 Dodge Ram pickup was found by a BC Hydro crew at the Hayward Lake recreation site in Mission.

An extensive search of the area was conducted. Later, small samples of of blood found on the driver’s seat proved to be Foulds’.

His cellphone was recovered from the truck, but his wallet has never been found.

Police have said that despite a “thorough” and “diligent” investigation, they have been unable to determine what happened to Foulds.

Nick Oldrieve, executive director of the Ontario-based website Please Bring Me Home, said he was contacted by Foulds’ niece to post the case online."

Abbotsford man has been missing for almost 5 years

The 57-year-old man left his home in 2009 in his red, 2007 Dodge pick-up truck, in the morning, for a doctor’s appointment in Burnaby. His truck was found in the parking lot of the Hayward Recreation Area north of Mission, but Foulds has not been seen since.

The Abbotsford Police Department investigation continues and police are hoping someone will remember something about Foulds or his truck from March 4, 2009 or will have current information that could assist them.

A new piece of information "In 2011, we received information from a witness who believed they observed FOULDS drivingwestbound on the Lougheed Highway with someone in the passenger seat of the truck on theday of his disappearance. To date we have not received subsequent information from otherwitnesses about this observation but we view all information and witnesses as valuable"
