The Toronto Police Service requests the public’s assistance locating a missing man.

Yoseph Birhanu-Baynesagn, 24, left his family’s home in Kitchener, Ontario on Thursday, November 23, 2017, and travelled to Toronto.

On Friday, November 24, 2017, he called a relative, who lives in North York, from a payphone, believed to be at Union Station, and said he was coming over for a visit.

He never showed up at the house.

Waterloo Regional Police Service was contacted on Saturday, December 2, 2017, by family and a missing persons report was filed.

Yoseph has not reached out to any relatives or friends since Friday, November 24, 2017. There are no records to date of him travelling and he does not carry a cell phone. His family and police are concerned for his well-being."

"He sort of seems to have vanished into thin air," Det. Const. Joel Manherz with the Toronto Police Service said in an interview nearly a year after the mysterious disappearance.

Yalem Metekia, Birhanu Baynesagn's older sister, says the family has been trying to piece together where he could have gone.

"It's really hard to understand," Yalem Metekia, Birhanu Baynesagn's older sister, told CBC News. "We just don't have any clue as to what would have happened or where to look at this point."

"In most cases, we have some idea as to where they may have gone," he said.

But, he added, this isn't like most cases.

Manherz said Birhanu-Baynesagn was not carrying a cellphone when he went missing and police have checked in with local shelters and hospitals with no luck. They have also not seen any bank activity."

Have to admit B McArthur crossed my mind in relation to this mp, although doubtful,.
Thinking of Toronto events that may have distracted or disoriented Yoseph, fairly close to Union Station around that time... fwiw, speculation, imo.

"KITCHNER, ONT. – A year after their son and brother vanished, an Ethiopian Jewish family in Kitchener, Ont., continues to hope he will come home, even as they admit that a happy ending to their nightmare is becoming ever more remote."

"What the family and their supporters know about Yoseph Birhanu-Baynesagn’s disappearance is limited. He left home, without taking his cell phone and other electronic devices, but did take his passports and some cash. The next morning, he called a family friend in Toronto, saying he was at Union Station and wanted to spend Shabbat with them."

"A private investigator hired by the family was able to find the telephone that Yoseph Birhanu-Baynesagn used to call his friend, in what was then called the Air Canada Centre."

I keep thinking about him. It is so strange. My question is, has anyone looked into is laptop?

1. His sister said he was into computers.
2. Brought his wallet,
3. Left his meds, as in he intended to come back.
4. He leaves at 11pm, doesn't tell his sister and then after a very long train ride
5. uses a payphone?
6. Brought passport (that could be used as identification if he didn't have a driver's license)

I think he got Catfished. It may seem far-fetched but hear me out: young kid, lives at home with his entire family. Spends a lot of time on computers. He was sheltered and certainly wouldn't tell his family that he was going to meet a girl that he spoke to online. He called a family friend because it was closer than home.

“In the past, he’d gone away for a couple of days without telling anyone, but he’s never done anything like this,” Yalem Birhanu-Baynesagn said. “Now everything is up in the air.”

''Yalem Birhanu-Baynesagn described her brother as a quiet and sensitive man. “He’s generally pretty quiet. He worries a lot and is a little terrified sometimes, but he wasn’t depressed that we know of,” she said.

A private investigator hired by the family was able to find the telephone that Yoseph Birhanu-Baynesagn used to call his friend, in what was then called the Air Canada Centre. She also found a security camera that was focused on the area of that payphone, but the recording was erased after 30 days.''
