Details of Disappearance:
Yves was described as quiet and artistic, and enjoyed collecting comic books. He vanished on July 2, 1984, after spending the day with his paternal grandmother. At the time of his disappearance, he was 16 years old, 4'9" and weighed only 84 lbs due to a battle with anorexia, for which he was being treated on an in-patient basis at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa, Ontario. He had been granted a day pass to visit his grandmother.

Yves’s visit to his grandmother’s house was only supposed to last for a day as he was expected back at CHEO that evening. After visiting with his grandmother awhile, he told her he was going to go and see a movie, though he did not specify which one. In addition, it is unknown if he was dropped off by someone at the theater or if he walked there. He told his grandmother he would be back by 6:15 pm, as she was supposed to take him back to the hospital but he never returned.

It was not learned until after Yves’s disappearance that he had actually gone to his friend’s house in the nearby town of Kanata (on the outskirts of Ottawa) but his friend wasn’t home, so Yves went to the neighbor's house, asking to use the washroom. At 7:00 pm, Yves called his grandmother to tell her he was delayed in coming back but would be there soon. No one ever saw or heard from him again. As it was 1984, there were no cell phones, so Yves was calling from a landline and his grandmother does not know where he was calling from.

This is a sad case. And there is some information missing. I read from Unsolved Canada.
Facts that Yves' mother died prematurely, Yves has scars on both wrists and a large scar on one of his arms. His father mentioned he hung out or stayed with "marginal people". Did Yves have a different lifestyle? He is artistic and polite. When he was placed in CHEO in April 1982, Yves had just returned from Barbados due to the progression of anorexia, I believe.
Being of short stature for his age and underweight, it could be plausible that he was bullied. The scars on his wrists, possible depression, taking off to a friends but lying about going to the movies... suicidal is the first thing that comes to mind. And why on earth would CHEO give him a day pass? I get that patients earn privileges but it was only a few months after his arrival.
But why hasn't a trace of Yves been found? Kanata at the time was fairly new. Not many buses I believe were routed out there yet. Hitch hiking? And who was this friend in Kanata? A new friend? Someone he met at CHEO?
Yves called from a landline, did his grandmother remember background noises? was Yves calling from a busy road way? One place that was around was the Town Centre Building, it used to serve as OC Transpo's main service centre for buses. maybe Hazeldean Mall in old Glen Carin was around. Maybe strip malls over in Beaverbrook. Surroundings around Kanata have grown and developed into commercial and residential lands. If Yves just walked off into the woods towards Ottawa, were all the wooded areas checked? Without a vehicle, Yves wouldn't draw attention, in the dark, he if just slipped off into the woods. Maybe he got hurt and was injured? Are there any age progression photos?
Very sad. Thoughts to the Jodouin's family.
