Carmel Sue Whitacre, age 26, went missing on August 9, 1970. After being released from the NH State Hospital for a weekend visit with her husband in Portsmouth, she failed to return to hospital grounds. On October 27, 1979, hunters found her skeletal remains a short distance off of Route. 43 in Northwood, NH. The circumstances surrounding her death are considered suspicious.
