Changes in Medical Lingo. No more "Mental Retardation"

  • #21
Don't confuse people with mental retardation (intellectual disability) with people who are mentally ill. While some do have a dual diagnosis, most are simply one or the other. :)
I sure do know that to be true...
Yet as we also know when someone acts out of sorts, imbalance how often the word "he is a 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬"
just pops out....
But you are totally correct. :)

I have mentioned here in older threads that I plan on donating my brain and/or tissue (whatever they can use, they can have) for research. My diagnosis include Bipolar I with psychotic features and mixed, rapid cycling, Tourettes syndrome + OCD & panic/anxiety disorder. I'm also an addict and a self injurer. My family history is riddled with mental illlness, addiction and suicide. I don't want it to continue- I want a cure! I want future generations of my family to be healthy and happy, free of mental illness.. I want this to stop! I'm sure there are others here who feel the same way.

Our only hope for a cure is research. They need our brains to understand our brains- they need "normal" brains to compare our brains with. We can help find a cure. I notice most of the talk on the thread is about Autism so here's a link explaining the process for that. http://www.memoriesofhope.org/about.php

If anyone else is interested I can locate information on other programs for different illnesses. I know this isn't a pretty thing to talk about but it's an important thing to be aware of, IMO.
