“If you come off that roof — and I’ve seen the drone footage of this — there’s an open-air parking lot behind that building,” retired FBI supervising agent James Gagliano told “Fox and Friends.”

"SOON: The FBI will hold a news conference

From CNN's Brad Parks and Dakin Andone
FBI officials announced they will hold a news conference this morning as the shooter responsible for the killing of Charlie Kirk remains at large.

The news conference — expected to begin around 9 a.m. ET (7 a.m. MT), according to a spokesperson — will include the FBI special agent in charge and Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason."

"The assassin
may have sped away on a motorbike,
dressed all in black
with aviator sunglasses, a black mask, black tactical helmet and a long rifle,
chilling police radio recordings suggest.

The gunman was initially spotted
'just east' of the university library,
but dispatchers later revealed authorities
'have cameras that show he left campus'.

'Possibly wearing a tactical vest and jeans',
and 'shoulder length hair'."

Shooter jumped off roof and fled into neighbourhood - official - BBC News
The suspect arrived near campus at 11:52 local time. The team has tracked his movements onto campus, through stairwells up to the roof and across the roof to the "shooting location".

After the shooting, investigators have tracked the suspect's movements across the building, where he jumped off the roof and fled off campus into a neighbourhood, Mason says.

Officials said they had tracked the movements of the gunman who fatally shot Mr. Kirk from the roof of a university building and then fled, and had recovered a rifle in a nearby woods. The suspect is still at large.

Investigators have other evidence that could help them identify and track down the killer, the special agent in charge of the F.B.I.’s Salt Lake City field office said in a news conference. That evidence includes a palm imprint, a forearm imprint and a “footwear impression.”

The suspect in the shooting “appears to be of college age,” according to Beau Mason, the commissioner of Utah’s Department of Public Safety. “We are confident in our abilities to track that individual,” he adds in a news conference, saying that investigators have been able to identify the gunman in video footage taken yesterday.

Shooter not hiding in woods where rifle was found, FBI official says

From CNN's Maureen Chowdhury
The person who shot Charlie Kirk is not hiding in the wooded area where investigators found the rifle believed to have been used in the shooting, said Robert Bohls, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Salt Lake City field office.

“We walked through those woods and secured it,” Bohls said at a news conference. “As to the community, I can tell you that this was a targeted event. We don’t believe the community is at risk. However, we are exhausting every resource to find him, and we will do so.”

"Charlie was a giant of his generation, a champion of liberty and an inspiration to millions and millions of people," Trump said on Thursday.

"We miss him greatly, yet I have no doubt that Charlie's voice and courage put into the hearts of countless people, especially young people, will live on," the president continued.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian award in the U.S. Trump said that the day of that ceremony would be announced soon, adding he thought it would surely draw a big crowd.
