I have never understood the horror with which some creationists greet the idea that we homo sapiens might share an evolutionary line with these remarkable apes.

if your faith tells you that God (rather than natural selection) instigated the branching off of humans 100,000 years ago, so be it. Nobody can prove you wrong.

But who or whatever was the instigator, there's no shame in being cousins to chimpanzees.

That was cool! Now I want to see them experiment with the chimps to see if they can use microwaves.

Am reminded of the old saw about monkees being able to talk but fearing that if they would reveal the ability, humans would put them to work.
